Microsoft Teams quiz · Free · No app to add

Run a quiz in your Microsoft Teams meeting

A browser-based trivia game that runs alongside any Microsoft Teams meeting. Play it as a 2-minute icebreaker, a 10-minute game or a pub quiz in rounds. No app to add, nothing for IT to approve: share a window, the team joins with a code from their phones, and ten questions later there's a winner on the board.

How to run it in Teams

  1. 1Open huddlequiz.com/host, pick Quick (3 questions) or Standard (10), and a room with a join code and QR appears immediately.
  2. 2In your Teams meeting, choose Share, then Window, and pick the HuddleQuiz window.
  3. 3Players open huddlequiz.com/join on their phone or in a second browser tab, enter the code and a name.
  4. 4Start the game. Questions run for 20 seconds each and the scoreboard updates after every reveal.

Why it suits Teams

  • No admin approval. It's a website, not a Teams app, so it works on locked-down corporate tenants.
  • Works on any device in the meeting. Desktop, web, or the Teams mobile app: players only need a browser.
  • Quick enough for a stand-up. Quick is three questions in a few minutes, Standard is ten in about ten, and the host can play along.
  • Real scoring. 100 points per right answer, up to 100 more for speed, no arguments.

Microsoft Teams trivia apps compared

  • Kahoot: runs inside Teams if your tenant allows the app and the host has a Kahoot account. Polished, and worth it if your company already pays for it.
  • Polly: polls and trivia as a Teams app, with a capped free tier and per-user plans above it. It has to be installed, and on most corporate tenants that means an admin ticket first.
  • Trivia and Water Cooler Trivia: quizzes posted into a channel and mostly answered in your own time. Built for a weekly ritual rather than a live game in the meeting.
  • Microsoft Forms: already approved everywhere and free, but it is a survey with a quiz mode. Answers are marked afterwards and nobody sees a scoreboard during the call.
  • HuddleQuiz: a website, so there is nothing to add to Teams, nothing for IT to approve and no accounts on either side. It is live: 20 seconds a question, and the board on the shared window updates after every reveal. The trade-off is that it is trivia only, with no custom questions yet.

Checked October 2026. Plans and features of the other apps change, so check their sites for the latest.

Three ways teams use it

  • The Friday all-hands closer. Ten questions before everyone signs off.
  • New starter welcome. An icebreaker in the first team meeting so names and faces stick.
  • Sprint retro reward. A quick game after the retrospective as a change of pace.

Microsoft Teams quiz FAQ

Can I add it as a tab in Teams?

Not yet. Share the host window during the meeting instead. It takes one click.

Do players need a Microsoft account?

No accounts on either side. A code and a browser is all anyone needs.

How many people can play?

Up to 40 per room. Big departments can run several rooms at once.

Does it work on the Teams free plan?

Yes. It runs in the browser, so it needs nothing from Teams beyond the call itself.

Is there a free trivia app for Teams that needs no install?

This one, and it is not an app. Kahoot, Polly and the Trivia app all have to be added to Teams, which on a managed tenant usually means asking an admin. HuddleQuiz runs in a browser window that you share, so it works in any meeting today.

Can I run a pub quiz on Teams?

Yes. Each Standard game is a round of ten questions, so play three or four rounds with a break between them. Teams can share a phone, the host plays too, and the board on the shared window keeps the score.
